Why does the result have so many decimals?
Because most conversions are not exact. The full figure is shown so you can round it yourself to whatever precision your work needs.
Is a kilobyte 1 000 or 1 024 bytes?
Both are in use. Storage makers and SI use 1 000; operating systems usually use 1 024 and call it a kibibyte. The data converter offers both so you can match whichever your source used.
