Questions people ask
How do I take 15% VAT out of a price that includes it?
Divide by 1.15 to get the amount before VAT. The VAT itself is the price divided by 23 and multiplied by 3. Subtracting 15% does not work and gives a figure that is slightly too low.
Do I have to charge VAT?
Only if you are a registered VAT vendor. In South Africa registration is compulsory above R1 million of taxable turnover in twelve months and optional above R50 000. If you are not registered you may not charge VAT or issue a tax invoice.
