Questions people ask

What is the difference between percentage change and percentage points?

If a rate goes from 5% to 7%, that is a rise of 2 percentage points but a 40% increase. Both are correct; they answer different questions. This calculator gives the percentage change.

Why is a 50% rise not cancelled by a 50% fall?

Because each is measured against a different starting number. 100 rises by 50% to 150, and 150 falls by 50% to 75. To get back to where you started after a 50% rise you need a 33.3% fall.
