Questions people ask
How much is a normal tip in South Africa?
Ten percent is the usual starting point in a restaurant, and fifteen for good service. Some places add a service charge for larger tables — check the bill before adding a tip on top.
Should the tip be worked out before or after VAT?
Either is accepted. Tipping on the total shown is simplest and slightly more generous. This calculator uses the figure you enter.
