Questions people ask
How is a word counted?
A word is any run of characters separated by spaces, tabs or line breaks. So “well-known” counts as one word and “e.g.” counts as one, which matches how most word processors count.
Does it match Microsoft Word?
For ordinary prose, yes. Small differences can appear with unusual punctuation, numbers with spaces in them, or text in languages that do not separate words with spaces.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The counting happens in your browser. Nothing you type leaves your device, and nothing is stored.
