Questions people ask
Are these random enough to use in production?
Yes. They come from the browser’s cryptographic random number generator, the same source used for keys and tokens, not from Math.random.
Could two people generate the same UUID?
In practice, no. A version 4 UUID has 122 random bits. You would need to generate billions a second for a century before a collision became likely.
Should I use a UUID as a database primary key?
It works, and it lets you create records without asking the database for an ID first. The trade-off is a larger key and more random writes. For most applications that is fine.
